Any fan of Vassar Clements who studies his work will LOVE this CD! Don't expect any of the Hillbilly Jazz influence here, this is a studio production started in 1969 running through 1972. Vassar was working as studio musician so this band is tight! The cuts are not the free flowing form developed in the mid 70's, but standard cuts, probably made to be played commercially if a DJ liked the tunes. During the time this was produced, Vassar was stretching his limts playing with the likes of John Hartford, Norman Blake and Tut Taylor. Here is Vassar just before he ventured out with the Vassar Clements Band and "electrified" fiddle. Its a good study of an excellent fiddle player any lover of real fiddle music should have.

Sorry to say this, but if you're a fan of Vassar Clements from his playing with Old and In the Way, or the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, or his own jazzy/swing excursions, you may not like this too much.Vassar plays over a very cheesy country backup band, with steel guitar, electric bass and drums. I personally was not able to listen to more than a few tunes, and I am a big Vassar fan.Buyer beware...
