If you love Sandy or are a Strawbs fan, it's hard to get better then this. If you want to try a Sandy Denny disc or a Strawbs disc buy this one. It's 1967, the beginning. Nobody sang Dave Cousins songs better then Sandy. The interplay of the guitars with that voice, Strawbs would be known the world over if the record companies would have actually listened to this recording when it was offered to them. Sandy left for Fairport before Strawbs ever got a record deal. So sad. What could have been. There are 2 versions of Who Knows Where The Time Goes. 1 has strings, I prefer the 1 which does not. I believe Sandy wrote it at age 16. One of the best songs ever written. All Sandy Denny best of should start with this version and end with Fairport's live version. Back in 74-75 I went into a record store and saw All Our Own Work by Sandy Denny and the Strawbs. Thankfully I purchased it. I never saw it again in a store in CT. This review is from: All Our Own Work (Audio CD) I first came across these recordings in 1991 when Hannibal released a 13 song CD which presented the material in a different order. I liked that one; it's quite a good listen. But this is an excellent new version, with the original running order of the songs (and the original versions of each of those songs), and adding several extra tracks. The remastering job is excellent, and the songs sound much more clear and defined. You can hear the rhythm section now, and the overall sound is a little less mushy. I feel I can now safely throw away the Hannibal release. Well worth the purchase if you are a Sandy Denny fan! 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: All Our Own Work (Audio CD) Great both as history + music. The Stawbs have never been my favorite vocalists, but the addition of Sandy Denny on Strawbs songs ( as well as a couple of versions of ' Who Knows Where The Time Goes ' ) was as good as I thought it was going to be. I'm going to see the Strawbs in a couple of weeks + I know I'm going to notice the difference. |
