Summary: Not the best Black 2009-01-07
Comment: I'm more a fan of Luther Burbank Performing Arts Center Blues and The End of the Universe than I am of this one. It just seems a bit less polished, and the energy level never really builds terribly high.
I think Black senses this, and near the end of the album he sort of apologizes for the turn his act has taken in the last year toward what he calls more depressing material. He's sort of joking as he says it, and I think sort of not, and it's good to acknowledge.
There are some funny bits here (especially on the loss of his virginity, vinyl albums, and a newspaper article on a blueberry pancake episode that Lewis reads to the audience)...but it's not a non-stop riot. I'm not sorry to have the CD, I just think he's done better work.

Summary: It's a Black Christmas, Lewis Black 2008-12-05
Comment: I loved this CD, and I laughed my [...] off. Worth every penny. Lowlights include golfer jokes that aren't quite as good as George Carlin's, and some others I don't remember that lead to mere chuckles. But once he got into the holidays, I experienced huge laughter. I'm new to Black, so I can't compare this to any of his other work...but I'm a fan for life now.

Summary: Definitely not his best work. 2008-11-02
Comment: There were few laughs to be had from Louis Black on this cd. Most of it was just ho-hum, and some of it was downright anti-semitic. THere are better Black cd's to spend your money on. Don't bother with this one.

Summary: "Anticipation " Lewis Black 2008-09-25
Comment: My wife and I are big fans of Lewis Black and try not to miss anything he does. We have spent enjoyable times listening and laughing at his CD's or DVD's (So uncontrollably one time playing a CD in the car that I had to pull over).
Maybe we've gotten to expect the same thing with everything he does ....
This one seemed to leave us wanting a little more. To our taste, it started off on a strong note and then seemed to lose it's edge toward the end. Enjoyable...For sure , but not as much as other things Mr. Black has done.

Summary: Black is back.... 2008-09-18
Comment: Mr. Black's "anticipation" is a very sly title for an album. One of the routines of the album has to do with that subject and it is a great one to discuss. There are also very funny routines about losing his virginity, santa claus, Channukah etc... many of the other topics being tied in to the main theme of anticipation. In doing that he shows the hallmark of a great story teller.
Also not mentioned is Mr. Black's great talent of the art of speaking, whereas he has great timing, delivery and knows the art of highs and lows that are needed for a long dialogue.
One thing that I noticed, in the photo on the inside jacket there is a picture of Mr. Black on the inside. If one covers each half of his face one side looks like he is smiling the other looks sad. That might really say a lot about this great man and comic. He is able to take the sadness and frustration of the world and make me laugh and smile about it, which really is a wonderful gift to give the me and hopefully the world.
