An Excellent Bluegrass Sampler,
January 29, 2001 This review is from: Blue Ribbon Bluegrass (Audio CD)
There are a number of fine bluegrass labels--Sugar Hill, Flying Fish--but Rounder rises to the top of the heap. And on this generous 23-track, 70-minute collection, you get some of bluegrass music's finest performers. There's the wonderful harmonies of The Nashville Bluegrass Band, the sweet mournful sound of Alison Krauss & Union Station, the fiery playing of the Johnson Mountain Boys, and for my money, the finest voice in bluegrass music--Tony Rice. He's also one of the best flat-pickers ever. And of special note, the inclusion of "Why Don't You Tell Me So" by J.D. Crowe and the New South (featuring Rice and Ricky Skaggs) is a previously unreleased number. Overall, this is an excellent bluegrass sampler and an inexpensive way to get some of the genre's best artists into your music library. [And check out the photo of a 6-year-old Alison Krauss on the cover!] HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
