This is Shooter Jennings's second release of 2006, recorded at a New York concert for Sirius Satellite Radio (where he hosts his own program) two weeks after the release of his second album, Electric Rodeo. Hearing Jennings and his tight, riproaring three-piece band the .357's--Southern rockers in the Skynyrd tradition (particularly on "Daddy's Farm")--on stage conveys all of their raw, gut-ripping immediacy. Six selections come from his 2005 debut, including "Manifesto No. 1," "Steady at the Wheel," the heavily countrified "Lonesome Blues," "Southern Comfort," and "Busted in Baylor County," inspired by a real-life Texas incident. Four others, "Electric Rodeo," "Gone to Carolina," the hilarious "Manifesto No. 2," and "It Ain't Easy," appeared on the second album. Jennings's outlaw attitude never lets up, and when he invokes Waylon, a ubiquitous touchstone, it's with wit and in good taste. In fact, one direct homage accounts for the album's most moving moment. Hearing Shooter's eloquent, loving "It Ain't Easy" leaves no doubt that the old man would be proud. --Rich Kienzle

Summary: Excellent Live CD 2007-01-10
Comment: This CD is an excellent snapshot of Shooter in concert. I recently saw him perform in Lancaster, PA, and his studio albums don't do justice to what Shooter and his band can do live. I also liked the extended segue into Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" during the performance of "Busted in Baylor County." I only wish he had included one of the Waylon songs he covered in concert.
Highly recommended.

Summary: classic shooter 2007-01-09
Comment: This is a good example of a classic Shooter show. If you want to remeber a show you've been to, here it is. If trying to decide to go to a show this release will help you. This would also serve as a good example of Shooter's first two releases.

Summary: Live at Irving Plaza 2006-10-21
Comment: Shooter and the .357's, his touring band, put on a rowdy, rocking set, mostly from Shooter's second album, Electric Rodeo. I have seen Shooter a couple of times live and his performances are electric and full of energy. This set is no different. The highlights include Manifesto No. 2, Steady at the Wheel and Daddy's Farm. This album shows Jennings carrying the torch of southern rock and is much closer to this brand of music than the country music played on radio today.
