Product Review

The album is a microcosm of all the things the band does well--Jay calls it "Rascal Flatts in a nutshell"--which is to say it touches on many of the best aspects of 21st-century country music. It is first and foremost uplifting, with songs like "Why Wait" and "Play" kicking off the proceedings with the call to enjoy life no matter what our circumstances. It features both the throwback groove of "They Try" and the fresh sparkle of "All Night To Get There." "Summer Young" is an uptempo celebration of the season of warmth and romance and "I Won't Let Go" is "You've Got A Friend" for the new millennium, a song steeped in the strength of love and friendship in times of trouble. The title cut finds a way to bring freshness to the subject of love and sees Gary bringing a disarming desperation to his vocal.

"One of the more special songs on this album for me is 'I Won't Let Go,'" says Joe Don. "Being a parent now and listening to that song really hits home and truly hits me in the heart."

"I think there's something for everybody on this project," adds Gary, "and it's a full-length example of what makes us who we are."

Guesting on the project is Natasha Beddingfield, who joins the trio on "Easy."

"We had a blast recording with Natasha," says Gary. "I've always been addicted to great singers and she is certainly one of the best. It was an honor to sing with her."

"'Why Wait' is one of the coolest tunes I've heard in a long while," says Joe Don. "I'll never forget sitting in that little studio in Santa Barbara and hearing it for the first time. Instantly we new it was a Rascal Flatts song and by the day's end we had ourselves an extremely magical track going. I love it!"

"We cut half the album in Nashville and half in Santa Barbara," says Gary. "We just wanted to change it up some and enjoy the beautiful weather in California. It gave us a new spark for sure."

"It as a nice departure from the norm for us," adds Joe Don. "We recorded in a funky little studio with some amazing L.A. musicians and created some great magic together. I really think you can feel some of the energy on a lot of these tracks."

"Overall," says Jay, "this is an album about fun, growth and change. We have been at a very important crossroads this year with our ten-year mark, so I think we wanted to prove to ourselves that we could still grow and surprise ourselves and stretch."

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay but not nearly as good as the previous CD's, November 17, 2010

I have been a Rascal Flatts fan since they showed up with their first CD. I love their music and how they present the lyrics is beautiful. I expected this CD to be better than the previous one's. As always the singing is beautiful and the harmony is flawless but the songs all sound the same. Previous CD's had a mix of slow love songs, jumpy songs about good times, and sweet tear jerking songs about faith. This one feels more like pop music with a little bit of country. I usually love 9 out of 10 songs they have but this time I only liked 3 songs. I am disappointed by this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Effort From the Flatts, November 19, 2010

I find 95% of country music to be absolutely detestable - but the Flatts grabbed my attention with their first CD and became one of the few exceptions to my rule. I was surprised that, despite their country sound, I enjoyed the experience. Their previous discs have always been great -- but there's always been that one song (or two) that I have to skip over. With Nothing Like This, they finally release an album that I enjoy from beginning to end - not one track on this disc is skip-worthy. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Welcome New Collection, November 16, 2010

After the underachieving (and underrated) Unstoppable, it is great to see Rascal Flatts climbing the charts again with their current single "Why Wait," the lead off track to their new album. From there, they flow into the song "Easy" which has a very catchy hook and a nice duet vocal by Natasha Bedingfield. It's a typical easy-going Flatts album, but it's damn good, and there are certainly some standout tracks that could take RF to the top of the charts once more.

All in all, it's not quite as good as "Unstoppable" or "Me & My Gang" (their two best albums in my opinion), but it could end up being a close third, for me.

Standout Tracks:
"Why Wait"
"Easy"
"Nothing Like This"
"All Night to Get There"
"Summer Young"
