Product Review

Diamond Rio's first big hit was called "Meet in the Middle," but "caught in the middle" more accurately describes One More Day: they sound trapped between cookie-cutter pop-country material and the irrepressible individuality of their instrumental and vocal personalities. Jimmy Olander's unique guitar style and Gene Johnson's down-home mandolin do their best to fight through NutraSweet tunes like "'Til the Heartache's Gone" and "The Love of a Woman"; but, like Marty Roe's honest vocals and the group's high-lonesome harmonies, they reside more comfortably in the arms of clever good-time tunes like "Stuff" and "That's Just That." They can also make you believe a heartbreaking tune about a couple's struggle with alcoholism ("I'm Trying") or raise chicken-skin with a tender bluegrass version of J.D. Souther's "Hearts Against the Wind." The NashVegas stuff may get them hits but it's tunes like those and Roy Orbison-meets-Buck Owens-at-the-beach stuff like "I Think I Love You" that makes them interesting. --Michael Ross

In July, 1998, country supergroup Diamond Rio released their sixth album, UNBELIEVEABLE. Two years later, the fabulous Rio boys are back with their latest album, ONE MORE DAY, a CD that truly shows the diversity of the band and is in my opinion the best album released so far in their career. As a longtime Diamond Rio fan, I knew the new album would be great, but never in a million years did I expect it to be as great as it is. With ONE MORE DAY, Diamond Rio takes their music to a new, higher level, incoperating what they do best--country music--with other popular musical genres. From traditional country to bluegrass to pop, the band shows a different side of their music with each of the album's thirteen tracks. Each song is unique and makes its own contribution to the album. The band's diversity even includes songs such as "Stuff" and "That's Just That", which are fun and upbeat and are there for the sole purpose of making you smile, while songs like...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings in the best of the old and new!!, February 6, 2001

On One More Day, Diamond Rio does a perfect job of creating new tunes in their trademark style millions have come to love over the last 10 years. But rather than being content where they are, the guys really stretch out over several sub-genres of country, from the fast paced "Thats Just That", to the touching "One More Day" (already a big hit) and "Til the Heartache's Gone", to a great duet with Chely Wright, "I'm Trying". They sound great on every track. Their trademark harmonies and great instromental precision all packed into a high-energy package is utilized more than ever on these 13 songs. If you like country music, or just plain good music, this album is highly recommended. My personal favorites are "Heart's Against the Wind", "I think I Love You", "I'm Already Gone", "I Could do it with my eyes closed", and "Here I go Fallin'", but they are all awesome. This is one of those rare cd's you...Read more

This is one of country music's best talents. Diamond Rio has been on the scene for several years, but they are still the best. "One More Day" is their latest album, and on it they change slightly (for the better). The album kicks off with "That's Just That", a fast paced tune with great talent on the guitar. Then there's the title track, followed by the ready-for-summer-radio "Sweet Summer." The pop-ballad "You Make Me Feel" is a winner by combining Marty's soft voice and excellent harmonies. "I Could Do It With My Eyes Closed" is a nice, catch-your-breath tune. "I'm Trying" combines Diamond Rio and Chely Wright (a great combination). "Heart's Against the Wind" is a beautiful bluegrass number (made tolerable by Diamond Rio's talent). There are even more songs on this CD, all of them great. It's been quite awhile, but Diamond Rio is back in the ring, throwing the first punch. And it's a knockout.
