3.0 out of 5 stars +3/4 -- A few killer late 80s/early 90s Nashville hits, June 5, 2003

This 1996 disc collects a dozen hits from the MCA catalog (one from Decca, one from Curb/MCA), documenting an interesting point in mainstream country's history. While the homogenized sounds of Nashville were already evident on the radio, many of country's established stars (and even a few newcomers) still managed to have hits with records that had a bit of twang, and stayed away from the generic power-ballad sound. The best ballads on this disc, George Strait's "I Know She Still Loves Me" (a non-LP track previously available only on the box se "Strait Out of the Box") and especially Vince Gill's gospel-blue "When I Call Your Name," show just how powerful a sad country song can be (and how having Patty Loveless on harmony vocals sure doesn't hurt!). 4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good CD for your money..., June 1, 2001

While I love most any type of country songs, this CD is a great buy for the artist included on it. It begins with a fast-type beat and stays that way in most songs with the exceptions of "When I Call Your Name" and "Please Come to Boston." The only reason I gave this CD four stars instead of five is due to the reason that it should hae included more songs with a slower beat. However, this shouldn't deter you from buying this great package for country music lovers.

This is a great compilation that any true country fan would enjoy. It includes Vince Gill, Reba, Trisha Yearwood, and many other great singers. My favorite song is "Please Come to Boston," but I didn't like the "Starting Over" album. I was pleased to see it on this CD.
