Okay, I'm not going to get caught up writing about how damn good this band was; I'll try to stick to this particular recording; which is so damn good.
Of course the actual gig is great- songs, playing, jamming, all in great voice and very tight(but loose), but what really strikes me as important to point out is the quality of the recording and the SUPERB mixing. Every instrument can be tuned into by the discerning ear- something I find to be such a magical part of the Dead's musical trip- zooming from instrument to instrument- voice to voice.
Kieth's piannie sparkles, Phil's bass is huge but not dominant and Bob's guitar chops can be appreciated easily. Garcia, well, you know.
I don't want to leave out Bill, so, I'll just say he's one of the most underrated drummers in Popular music- so versatile, sharp and aware of the other musician's directions. Actually he probably steers the others quite often. So he doesn't slouch here either. And of course I've ended up rambling...Read more

Get this directly from the Dead and save money!!! This show is just about perfect from the opening notes until the ending. The jam sections are large and chunky while the short songs are played to perfection and all are full of energy. There are a lot of releases from this period but this is one of the best. The sound quality is actually better than on some of the other '73 releases and the sound is very full. It's the entire concert from 11-21-73 with a large jam from the night before (it was a two night stand). Like I said, there really isn't much else to say as this is one of the band's strongest releases to date and the set list speaks for itself!!! If you were a subscriber to the series like I currently am, then you also received a bonus disc with this with a few songs from the 12-6-73 show. If you didn't get it, there's a very good version in circulation of the complete show which has quite a bit of hot stuff that didn't make the bonus disc.

Decent 73' Dead,

I have been reading reviews on this site since around 2003, but this is my first review.........why not, ay?
No particular reason why I chose this one. Although, I did get it in the mail today along with a whole bunch of Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band stuff.
Let us start the review:
"Hiya, folks" is the first thing You hear, and it is from Bob Weir. The band then go into your nice, typical 73 Me & My Uncle.
Sugaree is the usual, nice. This song really took off in 1977, where they stretched it out to 20 minutes at times.
Jack Straw is always best heard in 1973, and this version is very sweet. Loooooooove that mellow 73 sound.
Dire wolf makes a rare appearance. This version is slower than the original on Workingman's Dead.....let me remind you again that this is 1973 MELLOW Grateful Dead.
Black Throated Wind - Nothing special about this version. 1972 will give you the best of this song.
