Rodney Carrington: Live at the Majestic

If George Strait started doing stand up it would be something like Rodney Carrington(Obviouly George would have to go 'blue' with the language. lol). With the jeans, shirt and cowboy hat, he is not far from being a country singer - and he can sing as well as be funny. I'm new to the world of Rodney so I cannot really compare this DVD to anything he's done in the past but now I am a new fan.

The songs are the most entertaining part of his show and, if you don't listen to the lyrics too closely, you'd swear you was watching a George Strait acoustic show. By that I mean the guy can actually carry a tune - the comedy is not in his bad singing but in the lyrics. The way he sings with funny facial expressions is hillarious and his piano player sideman getting into the act as well by going off on tangents singing until Rodney stops him. We were at the venue for the filming of this DVD, and I've got to say, he put on one heck of a show. The best thing about Rodney is that he's always fresh. He very rarely uses his old bit, so each time you see him, you're in for surprises, and this one was no exception.

But it seems that he has taken a bit more of a conservative path since his show on ABC. If you've heard his old albums (Laugh You [...] and Morning Wood), you will probably agree that this is a bit on the "light" side.

Just about anything that comes out of Rodney's mouth is hilarious, but I personally came to love the guy for his complete lack of respect for anyone or anything. While "Live at the Majestic" and "King of the Mountains" (they are both from the same show) are both well-produced and extremely entertaining, they lack the level of insult that made him famous.

Rodney Carrington is my favorite comedian and this DVD is hilarious. You might see this on tv but it cuts out the foul language and a lot of jokes. If your having a bad day this DVD will give you a great laugh and cheer you up.
