Amazon.com essential recording
Almost every article ever written about Junior Brown has compared him to Ernest Tubb and Jimi Hendrix. Brown does sing in the bottomless barroom baritone of Tubb and does pick his guit-steel (his invention, a combination of Telecaster guitar and a tabletop steel guitar) as if he were Hendrix in a brim-turned, straw cowboy hat. What few observers point out is that Brown writes songs like Roger Miller. That gift for exaggerated lyrics is more obvious than ever on Brown's third full-length album, "Semi-Crazy." Brown is less interesting when he gets serious, as on the sentimental romantic plea "Darlin' I'll Do Anything You Say." No matter what he plays, though, Brown always entertains with his buttery, deep-voiced purr and his sudden bursts of picking virtuosity. --Geoffrey Himes

Summary: good guitar music 2006-11-03
Comment: I bought this CD for one song I heard on a Juke Box in a restaurant and was pleasantly surprised with the rest of it even though it isn't my usual genre preference.

Summary: Junior Brown is the MAN. 2004-11-12
Comment: Junior Brown is still the only countryish singer I can stand, and this is probably the best album I've heard from him. Hysterical lyrics, kick-[...]guitar - just an all around fantastic album. Favorites: "Hung it Up," "Joe the Singing Janitor," and the awesome Surf Medley. Get it now.

Summary: Junior's Benchmark Album 2004-09-20
Comment: If you have had heard some of the raves about Junior
from reviewers, but have never actually heard him, this is
a good Junior Brown tour-de-force. He explores some of the
old genres of country music - The Cheatin' woman, the Truck
Drivin' Song, We-Can't-get-Along, etc., and some other songs
that are just Junior having fun.
The intro guitar solo on "I Hung It up" is remarkable. I
place it with my top ten best recorded guitar solos. This guy
is in the same league as Clapton, the three Kings (Albert,
Freddie, BB), SRV, Albert Collins, Slash, Setzer, etc. {When
was the last time you heard a country guy use feedback and
whammy bar??) Ernest Tubb meets Jimi Hendix? (But it works!)
This album is just plain fun. Track ten is a surf music
medley thrown in just to mess you up about the time you think
you have him figured out. This CD occupies a permanent spot in
my car's CD cassette. Buy this CD. You won't be sorry!

Summary: Track # 10 is worth the price of this CD 2003-08-17
Comment: If you like 60's instrumental "Surf Music", then purchase this CD just for track #10, the Surf medly. I first heard this rendition on XM satellite radio and immediately went to the display screen to see who it was. I immediately purchased this CD, even though I am not a "country/western" music fan.Great recording with excellent steel guitar playing!
