Three years ago, a 13-year old Taylor Swift set out to be a star and moved from Reading, Pennsylvania, to Nashville. By 14, she had a publishing deal, and by 15, a recording contract. In these days of Bianca Ryan (and before her, Tanya Tucker and LeAnn Rimes), many are called, but few are chosen. Swift, it appears, is one of the chosen ones. Her vocal talent is modest, though sweetly affecting, her style seemingly influenced by the radio hits of early Sheryl Crow and Michelle Branch, and perhaps Cyndi Thomson. And at times, her youthfulness shows--she encoded messages in the lyrics of her CD booklet, starting with the name of the boy who cheated on her from "Should've Said No" (the album's strongest offering). But in writing or co-writing all 11 songs on this debut, Swift demonstrates remarkable maturity, particularly in crafting a hooky, radio-ready chorus. Though she sounds ridiculous looking back from the perspective of an 87-year old woman on "Mary's Song," to her credit she mostly writes about what she knows--unrequited high-school crushes ("Teardrops on My Guitar"), teenage angst ("Tied Together with a Smile"), and complete immersion in starry-eyed romance (her breakout hit "Tim McGraw"). Swift has such wistful charm and tunefulness that only a curmudgeon could dismiss her, and in fact, more than 60,000 fans lined up to grab this CD the first month of release. No wonder Rascal Flatts and George Strait added her to their tours. Look out, Carrie Underwood--there's a new kid in town. --Alanna Nash Album Description

Comment: Taylor Swift is one of the worst singers I have ever heard. Whenever I see her perform on awards shows I am embarrassed for her (and cringing). I just don't understand how she ever got a record deal. And I don't understand her popularity. IMO, the girl just cannot carry a tune in a bucket.

Summary: Taylor Swift -song maniac 2008-11-28
Comment: I wanted this cd sooo bad, so my mom got it for my birthday. in this cd, she made songs of different topics, such breakups and being alone. However, I might not get Fearless because I am a big fan of the jonas brothers, and a lot of of the songs are about joe jonas. She has a great voice. If you are a taylor swift fan, I seriously recommend this cd.

Summary: Love songs for the every-woman 2008-11-20
Comment: I probably am just off the target demographic for this album. As a late 20s female, I'm a bit older than the high school girl who will closely related, but I can at least listen and remember what it was like. The songs are straight from her diary, which is what I enjoy about the album. It is her real life experience as a teenage girl. She isn't attempting to write about things she doesn't know. Instead she pours her heart out about a crush on a friend, how when you are you you have THAT song as a couple and even later it reminds you of that time in your life, and sneaking out of the house. It's fun, it bring back memories, and she sings it all with a beautiful and mature voice. I've been listening to it for over a year and I'm still not tired of it.
