5.0 out of 5 stars "We like to think of our style as gospel and jazz ...", August 23, 2002

"... so we like you hope, hope you like ... well, anyway, here goes ..." Words remembered from an intro to "Children Go" at a Joe and Eddie live performance that ended up on one of their albums. This was the greatest birthday present I've ever received! When the albums I collected as a teenager began to wear out, I made tapes of them and have been listening to those ever since (needless to say, this CD is a *vast* improvement to listening to tapes that are over 30 years old - the sound is nothing short of AMAZING). Since ALL of their songs were my "favorite," I can't say that I wish pieces like "The Muddy Old River" were on this CD - because what I really want is MORE CD's so that I can have *every* song they ever recorded sounding as though someone has turned back the clock and they're right here in the room with me!They were the first singers I ever saw perform live - a terrified teenager, clutching their latest album to my chest. After the performance, I was too shy to ask...Read more

<Does ANYONE know what happened to Eddie Brown?Yes, I do. :-)Over the years, Eddie has been involved in a number of songwriting & producing projects, including a song on Irene Cara's "What A Feelin" album entitled "You Were Made For Me," a song co-written with Robert John entitled "Taking My Love For Granted," plus_many_more.His current project is the group "Gravity." Search Amazon for their latest CD, "Love Comes Back," which he produced and upon which appear many of his more recent writing credits.More later when I get a web page up for Joe and Eddie (will post the URL here when it happens). Meanwhile, you can reach Eddie via my e-dress.(submitted with loving memories of Joe Gilbert, from the one he called "Dispatcher")

I had only one of Joe & Eddie's first albums when I went to hear them in a nightclub in Georgetown, but that was just a start. They were magical. I was sitting about 10 feet away and was completely mesmerized. Their energy was incredible and they held every person in that club spellbound. When they did, "The First Time" I don't think I even took a breath. In "Sing Hallelujah" their voices start like a stream and build to Niagara Falls carrying us with them. No one has ever duplicated their intensity. They sang Gospel with incredible passion and I'm sure heaven is a livelier place since Joe arrived. They had a unique sound that needs to be preserved for future generations. It's hard to believe that they wouldn't be recognized again if this CD got more play. If they can bring back the very questionable 70's, surely they can bring back Joe & Eddie! I'm glad that a number of "second generation" fans have written reviews.Their voices blended perfectly and Joe's voice brings...Read more
