While the single-disc "Playlist" set which came out earlier this year is a good option for music fans on tight budgets, this 2-CD collection is a real, true, proper best-of retrospective. Like "Playlist," it's a straight-up reissue set, with tracks taken off the band's studio albums, and it doesn't offer any rarities, outtakes or live tracks. (Also, their earlier indie albums still seem lost in limbo: it would be nice to have a box set that integrates that material as well, at some point...) But if you are looking for a strong overview of their big hits (and many of their best album cuts) this gives a lot of bang for your buck. Highly recommended! The group's sound has often been imitated, but none of their...Read more

I have long been a big fan of the Dixie Chicks. There isn't a song on any of their albums that I have not heard many times. Not a single song I wouldn't listen to again at the drop of a hat... In fact, you don't even need to drop the hat. These three women are possessed of beautiful voices, and they know how to harmonize them to produce the most wonderful results. Natalie Maines' strong lead voice sells each song, projects each message, each story. The tremendous, versatile musical talent and skill demonstrated by Martie Maguire Emily Robison combine with the lead singer to produce a body of work that is variably inspiring, touching, funny, sad, and in in its totality, sheer genius. It is not at all hard to see how this great trio has sold such vast numbers of albums, one so very many awards, and enjoyed tremendous concert success.
The album set includes an all too small selection from "Taking the Long Way," which is (sadly) the only new so we have seen from the trio since...Read more
