Summary: Not a Contry Music Fan, But I Love This CD 2010-03-07
Comment: When I was a kid in the 50's and 60's, the Top 40 featured all varieties of music, including Country and Western. Rosanne's dad, of course, was one of those artists who had great appeal across many types of audiences. Since then, it seems like country music has narrowed its market considerably, and I'm not part of that market. My perception of a lot of today's country music is that it's irrelevant to my life and more about the show than the art, not unlike a lot of modern pop music (I don't care much for those acts, either).

This album, however, is more of what I'd call "classic" country music, and it is beautifully done. No glitz or glamor - just old fashioned talent applied to songs that are as much American classics as they are country classics, resuling in something genuinely artistic and timeless. I think it's one of the best CD's I've heard in years, and I can't stop listening to it. I never imagined I would say that about a country album.

Summary: A good list 2010-02-18
Comment: Though I am not typically a country fan; when Johnny Cash gives you a list of the best songs to learn we all sit up and listen. This CD is well done with classic country songs that win the heart of everyone.

Summary: disappointing, generic country 2010-02-16
Comment: Roseanne Cash is a very good songwriter and capable performer. This effort was disappointing to me. Suspect someone at the record company's marketing idea. There is nothing special about her versions of these songs. It is ok as a collection of country classics, nothing more, nothing less and the original versions by the original artists were, for almost every song, better. To hear what she is capable of, listen to Black Cadillac, a powerful album written after her father's death.

Summary: Hearbreak songs of perfection 2010-02-15
Comment:
We grew up listening to many of these songs. We love the way Rosanne Cash puts her own "touch" on the music and the her backup music and duet partners are absolutely amazing. Keep in mind that most of them are heartbreak songs so the album lends itself to a more somber, sad tone but it is a great compilation of songs and a "List" you will be glad you have!
