Summary: Bela accompanies and showcases African Music 2010-03-24
Comment: I loved this album. It's original, fun loving, under-produced, genuine. Bela showcases the talent rather than use it as a backdrop. There is incredible variety, from side of the road chanting, to an intense modern jam, to a soulful solo that will rip your heart out. The album is different than something like "Graceland" in that the songs were not written as background to the star's vision. Bela captures, accompanies and collaborates.

If you like smooth and predictable, go elsewhere. If you want to explore the depth and breadth of African Music, consider this album a wonderful introduction.

Summary: African music personified 2010-02-16
Comment: This album is wonderful! Takes me on a journey through the continent of Africa. Oumou Sangare's voice is beautiful and rare. My anestors are from Mali West Africa and I'm proud to say that Oumou is a wonder example of Wassoulou pride and talent. The artist on the CD bring out the bango! The Kora's are are beautiful addition to many of the songs. Bela is very talented and I appreciate his including my people on the CD.

Summary: Dance and rhythm for heart and soul 2010-01-27
Comment: I don't listen to much music, but I love this album. Great diversity of melody and music that touches the heart in unexpected places, and sparks african rhytms that dance through the body with ease. Energizing AND relaxing! :o)

Comment: Banjo seems to be having a resurgence and this colloborative effort with so many talented African singers and musicians suggests Bela Fleck has a finger on the pulse. Well worth a listen.
